Congressmen Eye Caremark, CVS For Inquiry
"Eight U.S. congressmen joined a push for the Federal Trade Commission to re-examine CVS Corp.'s acquisition of Caremark Rx, Inc. in 2007," Bloomberg reports. The deal combined one of the nations' largest pharmacy chains with a major pharmacy-benefits manager to create the biggest purchaser of generic drugs in the country. That move, say unions, community groups and lawmakers, including five senators, could be anti-competitive and could hurt consumers, patients and other companies (Wolf, 9/16).
