HIV Cases in China Have Increased 37% Since Last Year
The China Health Ministry said Tuesday that 20,711 new cases of HIV had been reported through the end of September, a 37% increase from the same time last year. Experts estimate that the actual number of HIV cases is more than 500,000. Of the cases reported to the government, 741 individuals have exhibited AIDS-related symptoms, while 397 have died. More than five times as many men carry HIV as women in China, with the majority of cases occurring among 20- 29 year olds.
