HBO Plans to Adapt Kushner’s ‘Angels in America’ for Miniseries
Tony Kushner's Pulitzer Prize-winning stage play, "Angels in America," which "blends comedy, drama, fantasy and reality" to depict the "AIDS-ravaged early 1980s," is in development as an HBO miniseries, TV Guide reports. Almost 10 years ago, the play was presented on Broadway in two three-hour segments, "making a faithful feature film or TV-movie adaptation all but impossible." Director Mike Nichols and actors Al Pacino and Meryl Streep are reportedly interested in the project (TV Guide, 8/18).
