WHO AIDS Drug List Will ‘Encourage Price Competition’
The World Health Organization's release yesterday of a list of 41 AIDS drugs deemed safe and approved for United Nations purchase "will encourage price competition among poor nations by telling health officials which of hundreds of generics suppliers make safe drugs," the New York Times reports. The Times today provides details on and reactions to the list, which includes drugs manufactured by four multinational drug companies and four generic drug makers.
