Washington Post Reviews O’Neill, Bono Tour Through Africa
The Washington Post today reviews the 10-day African tour recently completed by Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill and Irish rock star Bono. The pair traveled through Ghana, South Africa, Uganda and Ethiopia, visiting poverty-relief programs and HIV/AIDS clinics. The Post states that "by some yardsticks" the trip "has accomplished little beyond political theater," but it "also provided a kaleidoscopic glimpse into Africa's misery, along with a public debate ... about how best to alleviate poverty" (Blustein, Washington Post, 6/4).
