‘Prayer of Jabez’ Author Bruce Wilkinson to Move to South Africa to Fight HIV/AIDS, Minister to AIDS Orphans
Bruce Wilkinson, founder of the Atlanta-based ministry Walk Thru the Bible and author of the book "Prayer of Jabez," and his wife are moving to South Africa, where he will train African church leaders on how to help fight HIV/AIDS and minister to AIDS orphans, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. "[W]e were broadsided by the overwhelming need that is in Africa right now. ... We feel this is what God wants us to do," Wilkinson said (White, Atlanta Journal-Constitution, 7/13). Wilkinson's film company, Ovation Productions, is currently producing a picture titled "Beat the Drum," which tells the story of a boy in Africa who loses his parents to HIV/AIDS. Last year, Wilkinson produced a six-part video series titled "God's Answer to HIV/AIDS" that addresses issues such as sexuality, responsibility and forgiveness. The series has been shown across southern Africa. Wilkinson and his wife will move to South Africa on Aug. 30 and plan to live in the country for several years. Wilkinson is the newest member of "a small group of evangelical Protestants ... who have been admonishing U.S. Christians to do more against AIDS in Africa," Cox News/Washington Times reports (White, Cox News/Washington Times, 7/15).
