USAID Awards $127M Grant to Raise HIV/AIDS Awareness in Developing Countries Through Mass Media, Performing Arts
USAID has awarded a
five-year, $127 million grant to a consortium led by the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS and other public health problems in developing countries through the use of mass communications, theater and song, the Baltimore Sun reports. The consortium, which is made up of several academic institutions as well as the Academy for Educational Development, Save the Children and the International HIV/AIDS Alliance, will use the grant to collaborate with television and radio stations, theater groups and hotlines in the targeted countries to promote awareness of HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis, as well as family planning and proper nutrition (Baltimore Sun, 8/12).
