Tim Sullivan Named Executive Director of Nebraska AIDS Project
Tim Sullivan, who currently heads the St. Louis Effort for AIDS, will become executive director of the Nebraska AIDS Project next month, the Omaha World-Herald reports. Earlier this year, Sullivan was named to the Institute for HIV Prevention Leadership, which is sponsored by the CDC and the Association of Schools of Public Health. NAP board member and interim Director John Weston said that Sullivan has a "national reputation in the battle against AIDS." Nebraska has only one-third as many reported HIV/AIDS cases as the St. Louis region each year. The World-Herald reports that NAP has "had a difficult year"; the organization's previous executive director, Rich Santee, resigned in April following an arrest for lewd conduct, and NAP was criticized earlier this year by state officials for submitting a "deficient, last-minute application" for a federal grant designed to assist people with HIV/AIDS with their housing costs (Olson, Omaha World-Herald, 9/12). Nebraska in July was barred from receiving any of the grant money because Nebraska Health and Human Services Director Ron Ross missed the application deadline. Nebraska and Kansas are the only states that do not receive federal housing funds (Kaiser Daily HIV/AIDS Report, 7/5).
