Harold Jaffe Named Director of CDC’s National Center for HIV, STD and TB Prevention
CDC Director Dr. Julie Gerberding yesterday appointed Dr. Harold Jaffe to the position of director of the CDC's National Center for HIV, STD and TB Prevention, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Jaffe, who has served as acting director of the center for the past 13 months, is now tasked with convening a December summit of scientific experts and community representatives to discuss the agency's strategy to fight HIV/AIDS. Jaffe has served on AIDS research advisory boards at the National Institutes of Health and the National Cancer Institute and has been involved with AIDS research since the beginning of the epidemic in the early 1980s (McKenna, Atlanta Journal-Constitution, 10/9).
