‘NewsHour With Jim Lehrer’ Looks at Thai Monasteries’ Efforts To Help People With AIDS
PBS' "NewsHour With Jim Lehrer" on Tuesday examined Thailand's AIDS epidemic and how a number of Buddhist monasteries in the country are helping fight the disease by supporting government programs and operating hospices for people with AIDS. In Thailand, which is predominantly Buddhist, monks are influential figures. Some monks said that their efforts largely focus on generating compassion for people with HIV/AIDS by working to reduce the stigma of the disease and by teaching people how to care for people living with the virus (Lehrer, "NewsHour With Jim Lehrer," PBS, 10/22).
