MAC AIDS Fund To Feature Elton John, Mary J. Blige, Shirley Manson on Public Service Announcements on MTV, VH1 and BET
The MAC AIDS Fund and Elton John AIDS Foundation are sponsoring a series of public service announcements featuring John, Mary J. Blige and Shirley Manson of the band Garbage to be aired on MTV, VH1 and BET, USA Today reports. The PSAs, which will begin airing on Feb. 19, provide safe-sex messages targeted at youth. The three stars are also featured in magazine advertisements for MAC's Viva Glam campaign, in which all proceeds from the sale of their Viva Glam lipstick go to the company's foundation. John, Blige and Manson "are perfect spokespeople for this PSA because their creative expression appeals to all races, all sexes, all ages," John Demsey, president of MAC cosmetics, said. The PSAs, shot in a "stark room with a white bed," intersplice shots of 100 New York teens with messages such as "If you don't respect yourself, who will?" and end with the warning "AIDS Ain't Over," USA Today reports (Gundersen, USA Today, 2/7).
