Women’s eNews Examines HIV/AIDS Risks Lesbians Face
Women's eNews yesterday examined how lesbian and bisexual women "may not be receiving appropriate messages about how to protect themselves against HIV." The article cites two recent studies and also profiles an HIV-positive woman who considers herself a member of a community she called the "triple rejects: gay and lesbian drug addict sex workers." In addition, the article looks at the efforts of the Lesbian AIDS Project of Gay Men's Health Crisis, which has served as a "model" for other peer education programs for HIV-positive women in the United States. The program's support groups involve 150 women, and its outreach and prevention programs serve between 10,000 and 20,000 women annually (Lombardi, Women's eNews, 3/13). The complete article is available online.
