Washington Post Profiles Gateses’ Charity to International Health Causes
The Washington Post on Wednesday profiled Bill and Melinda Gates's efforts to "bankrol[l] programs to find new ways to stop the world's greatest killers, including AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria." The couple's charity, funded through their $25 billion Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, "has grown so quickly that the world has barely begun to absorb the implications," according to the Post. Since 1994, the foundation has donated $3.2 billion to health programs worldwide. During a recent trip through three African countries, Melinda Gates said, "Who knows why we're in the situation we're in? I don't think either of us can explain that. Yes, Bill worked really hard and he's been incredibly smart about things, but also very, very lucky. Given that, we both feel a huge responsibility to do what we can with that resource" (Gillis, Washington Post, 10/1). The complete article is available online.
