Book Helps Children With HIV/AIDS, Caregivers Understand Condition, Medication Regimen, Stigma
Health care workers in Thailand's schools, hospitals and HIV/AIDS care programs are using a book, titled "The Dragon in Brenda's Blood," to help HIV-positive children and their caregivers understand the condition, the need to follow a medication regimen and the stigma often associated with HIV/AIDS, "The World" -- a production of BBC World Service, PRI and WGBH Boston -- reports. Siam-Care -- a Christian not-for-profit organization serving pregnant women, mothers, children and their families who are affected by HIV/AIDS and live near Bangkok -- recently printed 5,000 copies of the book, and Medicines Sans Frontieres uses a similar text in their pediatric HIV/AIDS programs in the country, "The World" reports. The segment includes comments from Adrienne Wiangyangkung-Blomberg, co-founder and director of Siam-Care, and Paul Cawthorne, head of MSF in Thailand (Fink, "The World," PRI, 12/6).
