- "ALDO, YouthAIDS and Leading Celebrities Team Up To Raise Funds to Fight AIDS Pandemic," YouthAIDS, ALDO: The global fundraising and awareness campaign is selling for $5 an "empowerment tag" that is engraved with "Hear," "See" or "Speak" on one tag and the AIDS ribbon on the other, with all proceeds benefiting YouthAIDS. Celebrities Salma Hayek, Ashley Judd, Christina Aguilera, Cindy Crawford, Penelope Cruz, LL Cool J, Elijah Wood and Josh Lucas have donated time for the campaign, and the tags are available at ALDO stores worldwide and on www.youthaids-aldo.org or www.aldoshoes.com (YouthAIDS/ALDO release, June 2005).
- "Wealthy and Educated Women Are the Most Vulnerable to HIV Infection in Cameroon," MEASURE DHS: The latest Demographic and Health Survey in Cameroon, conducted from February 2004 to August 2004, found that HIV prevalence is 7% among women in the country and 4% among men. The survey is based on interviews with 10,656 women ages 15-49 and 5,280 men ages 15-59 from the 12 regions of the country (MEASURE DHS release, 9/2).
- "AIDS Vaccines at the Crossroads," AIDS Vaccine Advocacy Coalition: The annual report examines the state of the HIV/AIDS vaccine field and makes recommendations for meeting the challenges of developing a safe, effective and accessible AIDS vaccine. The report calls for solutions to intellectual property issues that could hamper vaccine development and includes a timeline that looks at major events in vaccine research over the past 10 years (AVAC release, 9/8).
- "Putting it Together: AIDS and the Millennium Development Goals," International AIDS Vaccine Initiative: In preparation for the U.N. 2005 World Summit, IAVI commissioned this literature review to examine where HIV/AIDS is having the greatest impact on MDG targets. The review found a need for greater implementation of treatment, prevention and care interventions, as well as the development of new technologies, particularly an AIDS vaccine (IAVI release, 9/8).
