TPAA Redesigned Web Site; Lancet Viewpoint Article on Effect of Population, AIDS on Poverty Eradication
-
Transatlantic Partners Against AIDS: TPAA -- a nongovernmental organization working to fight the spread of HIV/AIDS in Russia, Ukraine and neighboring countries -- recently redesigned its Web site. The new site contains recent news stories, information on upcoming events and Web links to additional resources. Visitors can register to receive an electronic newsletter (TPAA Newsletter, September/October 2005).
- "What would Malthus say about AIDS in Africa?" Lancet: John Cleland of the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and Steven Sinding, director-general of the International Planned Parenthood Federation, write in this Viewpoint article that rapid population growth and high fertility rates might pose greater obstacles to poverty eradication in many African countries than HIV/AIDS. They suggest a three-pronged approach that integrates HIV prevention into family planning programs (Cleland/Sinding, Lancet, 10/25).
