Bono, NBC ‘Nightly News’ Anchor Tour Africa
NBC's "Nightly News" starting Friday included special coverage of Irish musician Bono's visit to Africa to examine progress made in the fight against poverty and diseases such as HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria in several countries -- including Ghana, Mali, Nigeria and Rwanda. Bono's visit to Africa is part of his efforts on behalf of DATA, a debt relief and trade advocacy group the singer co-founded with Bobby Shriver, and ONE, a grassroots effort to fight poverty and HIV/AIDS worldwide. Friday's segment includes comments from Bono and Rick Warren, a pastor and author of "The Purpose-Driven Life" (Williams, "Nightly News," NBC, 5/19).
