Microbicides Important in Fight Against HIV/AIDS, Letter to Editor Says
Microbicides are "critical" in the fight against the spread of HIV/AIDS, and donors "should make large awards for research by independent investigators searching for an AIDS cure," Alok Bhargava, a consultant to the World Bank on HIV/AIDS issues, writes in a Washington Post letter to the editor. Because using condoms in marriage often is "hampered by social and psychological factors," microbicides are an important tool in HIV prevention and would allow women to "protect" their "health, privacy and rights," according to Bhargava (Bhargava, Washington Post, 5/27).
