Kaiser Daily HIV/AIDS Report Summarizes Reports Released at XVI International AIDS Conference
As part of its expanded coverage of the XVI International AIDS Conference, which was held Aug. 13 through Aug. 18 in Toronto, the Kaiser Daily HIV/AIDS Report will feature studies and initiatives released during the conference. Summaries of select publications and initiatives appear below.
- "The Microbicide Development Strategy," Alliance for Microbicide Development: The strategy -- which is based on input from more than 100 HIV/AIDS and reproductive health experts -- makes recommendations for microbicide development and highlights priority areas that must be addressed to produce and distribute an affordable microbicide. Many of the recommendations address "long-standing issues" -- including the role of consumer research in product development, the need to fully understand the sexual transmission of HIV and factors that must be addressed in clinical trials. The strategy also addresses scientific and preclinical development issues associated with microbicide candidates, manufacturing, formulation, access and commercialization (Alliance for Microbicide Development, "The Microbicide Development Strategy," August 2006).
