Florida Agriculture Department To Promote Healthier Lifestyles for Blacks During Football Game
The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services on Saturday will encourage healthier lifestyles and diets, particularly among blacks, during the Florida Classic Fan Fare, the Desoto Sun-Herald reports. Through the event, an annual football game between the state's two historically black colleges, the department is promoting exercise and healthy diets. According to the Sun-Herald, blacks consume fewer than half of the vegetables that whites consume. Florida Agriculture Commissioner Charles Bronson said, "Florida's farmers grow everything we need for a nutritious and balanced diet rich in fresh produce. In Florida, we're fortunate to have the ingredients for good health all around us. We need only take the personal initiative to improve our lifestyles" (Roundtree, Desoto Sun-Herald, 11/16).
