HHS Office of Minority Health Releases Guide for Improving Health Disparity Efforts
"Strategic Framework for Improving Racial/Ethnic Minority Health and Eliminating Racial/Ethnic Health Disparities," HHS Office of Minority Health: The report seeks to guide, organize and coordinate the systematic planning, implementation and evaluation of efforts within HHS, OMH and across the nation to obtain better results in efforts to reduce racial and ethnic health disparities. The report lists several key points, including the use of "existing science and knowledge as the basis for planning and implementing" activities; the evaluation of such efforts; assessment of "systems-level" factors, as well as the behavioral, biological and social determinants of health; and the employment of a "systems approach" to minority health to better leverage and coordinate resources and assets (OMH release, 4/4).
