Miami Herald Publishes Articles Ahead of AIDS Walk Miami
The Miami Herald on Tuesday published several articles about HIV/AIDS ahead of AIDS Walk Miami's 20th anniversary on Sunday. According to the Herald, the number of HIV/AIDS cases in the state "has not declined considerably" since the walk began and has "hovered" at about 5,000 new cases for the past decade. However, HIV-positive people are living longer. According to the Florida Department of Health, as of Jan. 31 the number of people living with HIV/AIDS in Broward County had increased to 14,357 from 13,493 at the end of 2006. The number of cases also increased in Miami-Dade County from 22,002 at the end of 2006 to 23,255 at the end of January, according to the agency. Headlines appear below (Holder, Miami Herald, 4/15).
