Iowa To Host HIV/AIDS Conference With Focus on Prevention, Treatment
The Iowa Department of Public Health will host an HIV/AIDS conference next month that will bring together health care providers in an effort to provide prevention and treatment services to people in the state, the AP/WHOtv.com reports. The conference will be held from June 3 to June 4 in Des Moines with the theme, "Unity and Diversity: The Challenge for Change." According to health officials, the conference comes as the number of people in Iowa diagnosed with HIV has increased to the highest level recorded since reporting started in 1998. Columbia University researcher Mindy Thompson-Fullilove, whose work has focused on impoverished communities and blacks, will be a keynote speaker at the conference (AP/WHOtv.com, 5/29).
