HIV/AIDS Initiative Targeting Children Launched in Ireland
The Church of Ireland on Wednesday launched a campaign called, "Let's Go and Tackle AIDS," that aims to increase awareness of the disease among children in the country, the Belfast Telegraph reports. The initiative was launched by Bishop of Derry and Raphoe Ken Good at the Church of Ireland Diocesan Centre and is part of a children's series of "Let's Go!" events. According to the Telegraph, the campaign intends to provide children of different ages with a better understanding of issues surrounding HIV/AIDS, as well as to raise funds to help people living with the disease in Africa. Representatives from the Diocesan Bishop's Appeal and Let's Go, in partnership with Christian Aid and Tear Fund, organized the event. The event also honored Tendai Madondo of Christian Aid, who works to mainstream HIV/AIDS and gender issues through a project that operates in Central Asia, South America and Africa (Belfast Telegraph, 8/27).
