Issue Brief Examines Racial, Ethnic Health Disparities’ Effect on Employers
"Eliminating Racial and Ethnic Health Disparities: A Business Case Update for Employers" (.pdf), National Business Group on Health: The 18-page issue brief is part of a two-year initiative announced last year by NBGH and HHS' Office of Minority Health that aims to help employers reduce racial and ethnic health disparities in the workplace and improve the quality of health care for minority populations. The brief defines health disparities, identifies key factors that contribute to disparities, discusses health disparities' effect on employers and cost effects, and provides reasons for employers to address disparities in the workplace. The brief also includes a step-by-step strategy for employers to better understand the legal myths and realities associated with racial and ethnic data collection, determining what data to collect, how to measure and use the data, and how to work with employees, health plans and health care vendors. The brief also includes health disparities resources for employees and health providers (NBGH release, 4/20).
