Former Health Care Company Executive To Lead GHI
A State Department spokesman confirmed Wednesday that Lois Quam, a "former UnitedHealth Group executive," will become executive director of President Barack Obama's Global Health Initiative, the Associated Press/Star Tribune reports.
"The appointment reunites Quam with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton," the news service writes (1/26). From 1993 to 1994, she served as a senior adviser on rural health issues to Clinton, according to the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal, which adds: "Quam is currently CEO and founder of St. Paul-based Tysvar, a privately-held company seeking to establish a green economy and universal health care reform" (Keranen, 1/26). Also Wednesday, Quam announced her resignation from General Mills' board of directors to assume her new role at the State Department, according to a company press release (1/26).
