AIDS-Related Donations From U.S., European Philanthropies Decreased In 2010, Reports Show
Two recently released reports "show that AIDS-related funding from United States and European philanthropic donors totaled US$612 million in 2010, a combined seven percent decrease (US$44 million) from 2009," according to a joint press release from Funders Concerned About AIDS (FCAA), the European HIV/AIDS Funders Group (EFG), and UNAIDS. The reports, "U.S. Philanthropic Support to Address HIV/AIDS in 2010" and "European Philanthropic Support to Address HIV/AIDS in 2010" (.pdf), are available online. "UNAIDS, FCAA and EFG emphasize that philanthropy has a catalytic role to play in the response to HIV through its commitment to address key focus areas, such as advocacy, that are not often covered by other sources of funding," the press release states (11/10).
