- The Gambia's National Malaria Control Program Marks World Malaria Day
The Gambia's National Malaria Control Programme (NMCP) on Monday organized a press briefing about the upcoming World Malaria Day, which the country will join the rest of the world to observe on Saturday, the Daily Observer reports. The event included representatives from NMCP and Catholic Relief Services talking about combating malaria (Ceesay, Daily Observer, 4/20).
- Eleven District Representatives Attend Event To Mark World Malaria Day in Ghana
In advance of World Malaria Day, representatives from 11 districts across Ghana recently participated in an event, titled, "District Leadership Involvement in Counting Malaria Out," in Accra, Ghana, the Ghanaian Chronicle reports. The event explored how district leaders can help to prevent and treat malaria. Elias Sory, director general of Ghana Health Service, educated event attendees about the worldwide fight against malaria (Akuamoah, Ghanaian Chronicle, 4/21).
- Private Sector Must Continue To Fight Malaria, Health Official Says
The private sector must push forward in the fight against malaria, Dinis Sengulane, president of Roll Back Malaria in Mozambique, said recently at an event to mark the start of a series of activities for World Malaria Day, AIM/AllAfrica.com reports. Sengulane also spoke about the need to use insecticide-treated nets to prevent malaria and advised people to seek medical advice in a timely manner (AIM/AllAfrica.com, 4/21).
