NANCY-ANN DEPARLE

Date of Birth: Dec. 17, 1956.
Education: B.A., University of Tennessee; J.D., Harvard Law School; B.A. and M.A., Balliol College, Oxford University.
Career Path: DeParle served as Tennessee’s Medicaid director before moving to Washington, where she became associate director for health and personnel at the White House Office of Management and Budget. After that, she ran the Health Care Financing Administration (now the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services). She moved to the private sector in 2000, and was managing director at CCMP Capital, a private equity firm.
Role in Health Care Reform, 1993-1994: While overseeing health programs at OMB, DeParle was taking part in the Clinton health care reform effort.
Why She’s a Player: As the White House’s top health policy official, DeParle is taking a leading role in working with the Congress and various interest groups. She’s known as an effective negotiator.
