Connecticut Expands Medicaid Eligibility to Parents
On Jan. 1, Connecticut expanded Medicaid coverage to parents of children enrolled in the Medicaid portion of the state's Healthcare for Uninsured Kids and Youth (HUSKY) program, the AP/Hartford Courant reports. Approved last year by the state General Assembly, the expansion builds on existing Medicaid coverage levels by allowing parents who earn up to 150% of the federal poverty level (about $21,000 annually for a family of three) to receive health care coverage. Lawmakers said the new eligibility rules will provide help to "thousands of working parents in the state" (AP/Hartford Courant, 12/29).
