Team Selected to Review Global AIDS Fund Grant Applications
The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria has named an international "team of experts" to review the first round of grant applications, Reuters reports (Reuters, 3/11). Grant proposals were due on Sunday (Kaiser Daily HIV/AIDS Report, 3/6). The group of experts will meet from March 25 to April 5 to review the applications for the $800 million that the fund will allocate this year. Although $2 billion has been pledged to the fund, some of the donations are spread over more than one year (Reuters, 3/11). Nearly 50 nations -- including half the countries in sub-Saharan Africa -- were expected to submit grant requests, but some countries may not receive any funding at all. Grant recipients are expected to be announced on April 24 (Kaiser Daily HIV/AIDS Report, 3/6).
