Philadelphia HIV/AIDS Physician Appointed Dean of Drexel University School of Public Health
Marla Gold, division chief of HIV/AIDS medicine at the former MCP Hahnemann University School of Public Health in Philadelphia, has been appointed dean of the Drexel University School of Public Health, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports. The MCP Hahnemann University School of Public Health merged with Drexel University last month, bringing the public health school to Drexel. As head of HIV/AIDS medicine at Hahnemann, Gold managed "the largest [HIV/AIDS] practice of its kind" in Philadelphia. She helped boost the clinic's staff from three to 40 employees, and the clinic currently serves 1,300 patients (Uhlman, Philadelphia Inquirer, 8/19). Gold also serves as an external reviewer for Ryan White CARE Act funding applications at HRSA and has received grants to help substance users in Philadelphia access HIV primary care services (Drexel release, 8/6). Gold also previously served as medical director for HIV services for Health Partners, a Philadelphia-based Medicaid HMO (Philadelphia Inquirer, 8/19).
