UNAIDS, U.N. Human Rights Commissioner Announce Updated International Guidelines on HIV/AIDS and Human Rights
UNAIDS and the U.N. Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights on Tuesday announced that they have issued an updated version of the International Guidelines on HIV/AIDS and Human Rights that "reflect significant political and legal developments relating to HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment, care and support," according to a UNAIDS/OHCHR release. In addition to "strengthen[ing]" the Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS adopted in 2001 by 189 world governments at the U.N. General Assembly Special Session on HIV/AIDS, the revision also "breaks new ground" by calling on world governments to take very specific actions to fight HIV/AIDS. The revised guidelines are available online (UNAIDS/OHCHR release, 9/10).
