NPR ‘Morning Edition’ Examines Debate Over Role of Abstinence Education in Reducing Ugandan HIV Prevalence Rate
A debate is "brewing" over abstinence education and the role the education method has played in the reduction of the HIV prevalence rate in Uganda, NPR's "Morning Edition" reports today in a segment on the country's "ABC" -- "Abstain, Be faithful, or wear a Condom" -- AIDS education technique. According to NPR, a new study shows that increased condom use, a reduction in the number of sexual partners and delayed sexual debut all played a role in cutting HIV infections in Uganda, but some "conservative" analysts say that abstinence was the "real reason" (Wilson, "Morning Edition," NPR, 1/21). The full segment will be available online in RealPlayer after noon ET.
