Africans Unite Against AIDS Globally Group To Launch 100 New HIV/AIDS Testing, Counseling Centers in Kenya
Africans Unite Against AIDS Globally, an international nongovernmental organization, has announced plans to open 100 voluntary HIV/AIDS counseling and testing centers in Kenya, Xinhua News Agency reports. The centers will be established to "spearhead" the fight against the disease. AUAAG CEO Tiamo Rauf on Sunday at the opening of a center in Nairobi said that the group is scheduled to launch the centers along the Mombasa-Nairobi road in eastern Kenya and then expand to the rest of the country. The Kenyan government has recently announced a "War Against HIV/AIDS" program, including the creation of a Cabinet Committee to coordinate the efforts. The Kenyan Planning and National Development Ministry on Monday began a large-scale, three-month population and health study, which will include about 8,000 random HIV tests on people throughout the country to monitor the spread of the disease, Xinhua News reports (Xinhua News Agency, 4/14).
