CQ’s Adams Discusses Global AIDS Bill, Funding Prospects
Congressional Quarterly senior health reporter Rebecca Adams discusses the prospects that the global AIDS bill (HR 1298) -- which President Bush is expected to sign today -- will be fully funded, among other issues, in this week's "Health on the Hill from kaisernetwork.org and CQ." Adams says that most observers expect the White House to support funding of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria at $200 million this coming year, but she says that appropriators are likely to push for additional spending. The bill authorizes up to $1 billion to go to the fund. Adams also discusses the Senate's slight change to the House version of the bill and President Bush's reaction to the final bill (Adams, "Health on the Hill from kaisernetwork.org and CQ," 5/12). The report is available online.
