NPR’s ‘Fresh Air’ Interviews New Orleans Nurse Working With Uninsured HIV-Positive Residents After Hurricane Katrina
NPR's "Fresh Air" on Tuesday as part of a series on New Orleans six months after Hurricane Katrina included an interview with Jeanne Dumestre, a nurse practitioner working with uninsured area residents living with HIV/AIDS and co-founder of Tipitina's, a musical venue in the city dedicated to helping local artists recover from the hurricane. Dumestre won an HIV leadership award in 2005 for her commitment and work in the Louisiana State University Health Science Center's HIV outpatient program. In the interview, Dumestre discusses her experiences locating patients after Katrina and the stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS in the region (Gross, "Fresh Air," NPR, 2/28).
