List of Finalists for Global Fund Executive Director Position Ready To Be Reviewed by Fund’s Board
A list of five final candidates to succeed Global Fund To Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria Executive Director Richard Feachem was scheduled to be delivered to the Global Fund's 24-member board on Monday, the Wall Street Journal reports. According to sources familiar with the process, Rep. Jim Kolbe (R-Ariz.) and Vice Chair of MTV Networks Bill Roedy, who also is president of MTV Networks International, are on the list. Michel Kazatchkine, a former Global Fund vice chair and France's global ambassador for HIV/AIDS and communicable diseases, also is a finalist, according to sources (McKay, Wall Street Journal, 10/9). The two other candidates expected to be on the list are Michel Sidibe, director of UNAIDS' country and regional support department, and Hilde Johnson, Norway's former minister of international development, Reuters UK reports (Reuters UK, 10/9). A special committee assembled by the board selected the list of finalists, which could change if any of the five candidates withdraw, according to people familiar with the process. The board committee interviewed more than 10 candidates from a list of applicants drafted by the executive search firm Odgers Ray and Berndtson. Jon Liden, a Global Fund spokesperson, declined to confirm or deny the names of the finalists, but he said they had been chosen from 300 applicants. The Global Fund board is expected to make its final decision at a meeting that begins on Oct. 31 (McKay, Dow Jones, 10/8).
