Southeast Asian HIV/AIDS Task Force Opens Meeting To Discuss Cooperation in Fighting Against Disease
The 16th meeting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Task Force on AIDS opened on Monday in Hanoi, Vietnam, and is being attended by 10 ASEAN member representatives and international organizations, the Vietnam News Brief Service reports. The meeting is part of ASEAN's efforts to increase regional cooperation in curbing the spread of HIV/AIDS and reinforce its ties with regional and international organizations.
During the meeting, Vietnamese Deputy Health Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Tien said that the country has been an active participant in ASEAN's efforts. He added that Vietnam has addressed HIV/AIDS prevention and control through a national strategy that is scheduled through 2010 and includes a target of curbing Vietnam's prevalence rate at 0.3%. The meeting will end on Nov. 5 (Vietnam News Brief Service, 11/4).
